Going back to school in the fall comes with the opportunity to explore and join new clubs. If you’re looking for a club that will expose you to the business world and provide opportunities for you to compete, then Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) may be right for you. FBLA is an organization run by Mrs. Oswald, and the mission of the organization is to prepare students to become community-minded business leaders in a global society. There are opportunities to meet local business professionals, to participate in community service activities, and compete in events around the state and country. FBLA also helps with school events like freshman orientation, the North Augusta Christmas Tour of Homes, and many more.

Future Business Leaders of America meets monthly after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays to discuss upcoming events in the school and the community. These meetings usually last around thirty minutes to an hour. FBLA looks for students who have qualities of exceptional character, leadership, scholarship, and service. The organization helps students with skills such as building confidence, business leadership skills, character, patriotism, and citizenship.
Future Business Leaders of America has over 200,000 members across the United States, China, Puerto Rico, Europe, and Canada. Mrs. Oswald states that “FBLA is involved in bettering our homes, businesses, and communities through community service with organizations like The American Enterprise Chapter Projects, and events like the annual Fall and Spring School Blood Drive with the Shepeard Blood Center and the Red Cross. FBLA members serve as guides for businesses and school events such as the Freshman Orientation, NA Christmas Tour of Homes, Parent Conferences, and many others. In addition, they partner with NJROTC to plan assemblies for 9-11, Black History Month, and Veterans Day.” These are only a few examples of the type of opportunities that are available to you in FBLA.

When asked what Future Business Leaders of America looks for in members, Mrs. Oswald reported that “We look for qualities of exceptional character, leadership, scholarship, and service. We value enthusiasm, dependability, and passion for impeccable ethics. Students who are always available to praise and encourage others. Students who seek no personal recognition or public tributes. Students who strive for excellence and for whom we can say have achieved excellence.”
If this sounds like something you may be interested in and you are seeking an organization that will develop your business leadership skills and give back to your school and community, FBLA is the club for you. Please contact Mrs. Oswald for more information. The first FBLA meeting of the year will be on Tuesday, October 6th for the Blue Cohort and Thursday, October 8th for the Red Cohort. This is just an interest meeting, so all students are welcome! The meetings will be held in the multi-purpose room at North Augusta High School.
