If you enjoy trivia and trivia-based competition, then you should join the North Augusta High School Academic Team! The Academic Team is a club where you get to compete in trivia games with other students and learn new things about the world around you. The club is run by Mr. Vance, and members meet in room FA204 every Tuesday and Thursday after school from 3:45 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. to practice for trivia events. In these events, Academic Team members compete against other high schools in trivia competitions.
Because of the pandemic, no events have been confirmed yet for North Augusta’s Academic Team. Hopefully, this will change soon. During a normal school year, the Academic Team gets to compete at multiple events against other high schools, and at the end of the year, they compete in a trivia tournament. To prepare for the events and the tournament, the team holds frequent practices in which they do mock-trivia competitions. These include timers, buzzers, and the answering of practice questions in the same manner that they would be answered in a competition. Snack are also provided at these meetings.

To learn more about the club and its members, Jeffrey Moody, a junior who joined the club last year, was interviewed. He stated that he joined Academic Team because he wanted to better his knowledge and because he enjoys competing and winning. Moody also reports that he enjoys being in the club because of the friendly environment and the fun people. He and his fellow teammates like to joke around and just have fun. To anyone who is thinking of joining but is worried about having to answer questions, you don’t have to worry! Lots of students that come don’t even compete. They join the Academic Team just to hang out and have fun. If you are interested in joining, please talk with or email Mr. Vance, in room FA204.
