Academic Team is a teacher led group of students who participate in competitions revolving around trivia. At North Augusta High School, this group of students is led by Mr. Vance, a history teacher in Freshman Academy. The students who participate in Academic Team, one of which is Trey Beck, usually have a breadth of general knowledge that can benefit the team. Questions asked at competitions can vary incredibly, so it is crucial that the team has students that not only have broad knowledge, but also extensive knowledge in a specific area.
When asked about Academic Team, Trey Beck responded:
“The academic team at North Augusta High School is an incredibly fun place to be every Tuesday and Thursday after school, both to crack jokes and flex trivia we know. We are in the middle of competitions right now, so we hope to see ourselves win competition after competition, as we have prepared for this season for half a year. I personally love the way that all of us have a good relationship with each other and with Mr. Vance, who is an extraordinary coach for our team.”
Mr. Vance responded:
“I have been coaching the Academic Team for several years and I really enjoy it. We practice after school every Tuesday and Thursday and we have our competitions on Mondays. This year has been a little different with COVID because all of our matches have been virtual. It has taken some getting used to, but the team has done really well so far.”
