Construction of New Police Headquarters on Georgia Avenue

At a recent city council meeting, the motion to build a new police headquarters was passed unanimously, 6-0. The decision comes at a much-needed time, as the headquarters on Buena Vista no longer represent the quality of NA Public Safety and North Augusta as a whole.

Benjamin Burch—an eleventh-grade student at North Augusta High School—supports such construction, saying that he “believes it would help the North Augusta Police Department through the inclusion of modernized equipment and technology.”

Burch also has concerns for such construction, believing that “the cost of it could be detrimental [to the city].” Burch’s point on the financial burden the headquarters could bring agrees with the viewpoint of those that oppose the construction.

“It could affect public safety by giving our officers better accessibility to the whole city,” says Burch. “Overall, I think we could feel safer in this city and be able to trust our police more [than we have].”

The construction of a new police headquarters, which could offer better training, better equipment, and more efficiency, will positively affect North Augusta Public Safety.
