Extracurricular activities have always been a major part of North Augusta’s school community. Students generally join numerous clubs because they offer learning experiences outside of the classroom setting. There are well over 20 extracurricular activities offered at North Augusta High School, including merit-based honor societies, community service organizations, and clubs honoring theater and the arts.
Each club is implementing new safety procedures and working their best to keep everyone safe, while maintaining the typical level of educational experience. They have been communicating through email, websites, social media, and the Remind app. The Junior State of America club, for example, has been engaging its members through Zoom meetings and texts. This allows them to convey information, even when they must meet less frequently.
Despite the restrictions in place, students are excited for all the things that clubs have to offer this school year. Our faculty and staff are very adamant that they will not let this year’s hardships stop them from providing great opportunities for North Augusta High School students.
With it being the last year of high school for seniors and the second-to-last year of high school for juniors, our students have taken initiative to continue leading their respective extracurriculars. Several students interviewed have even described initiatives and projects they have been working on to supplement the more limited club meetings. Others note that they are more appreciative now of the hard work each person puts into the success of our school’s activities.
Extracurriculars are an important part of North Augusta High School’s culture, and we are grateful for the continued livelihood we each may share with our peers. Together, we can ensure the prosperity of the clubs we currently offer and encourage students to pursue what they are interested in.
