Family Spotlight: Thanksgiving Traditions

Thanksgiving traditions comes in many forms. They could include watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with friends and family, or sharing a meal with the one you love. Lauren Bell, a sophomore at North Augusta, shares the traditions of her family

Bell says her family "goes over to (her) aunt’s house to see and hang out with relatives and family members whom (they) do not get to see often.” At her aunt’s house, her family participates in a Christmas drawing.

In this event, they create a list of what they want to receive. Then they put the items into a bowl, and secretly draw names. After that, they all join once more in December and give the gifts which they picked.

Another student at North Augusta, Andrew Towner, a senior, shares his family’s traditions.

Towner says his Thanksgiving traditions include watching the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving parade in the morning, going to his grandparents' house, and having a Thanksgiving meal with his extended family.

After they eat, they help his grandparents set up their Christmas tree. Finally, on Black Friday, they go shopping.

There are both similarities and differences in the Thanksgiving traditions of those in the North Augusta community. However, they are all centered around spending time with loved ones and celebrating the good each person experiences. It’s this general theme that makes the holidays joyful.
