One of the newest small businesses in North Augusta is Christie’s Coffee Co. It is a drive through coffee shop, and is owned by the same owners of Pelicans SnoBalls, Lisa and Joseph Christie.
“The reason we started Pelicans is that our family loves SnoBalls and we wanted to share them with our friends in the community. It’s kind of the same with coffee. I’ve always been a huge coffee lover even before SnoBalls and I’ve always wanted to have a coffee shop. It’s just taken this long to make it happen!” says Christie.
Even with tough competition from chain coffee establishments in the area, the Christies believe that they have made themselves stand out.
“The main thing that sets us apart from Starbucks and Dunkin’ is that we are 100% local. All the money that is spent at our shop stays right here in the community,” says Christie.
The Christies built their business with the thought of good coffee and convenience in their mind. They said “we wanted to be able to provide coffee for people, without them getting out of their car. Most of the time, I think everyone is in a hurry and they don’t have time to park, get out, and go inside for coffee, so I wanted to be able to provide that convenience.”
As a local business, the Christies make a point to prioritize the wellbeing of the community and its citizens, saying, “We love North Augusta. The community always steps up and supports local businesses so, yes, we have been successful. We are definitely hoping to expand into other parts of the CSRA. We don’t really know what that looks like right now or where we would go but we will take it a day at a time.”
