Halloween traditions are a big part of the North Augusta community. Yet, events such as the Jack O Lantern Jubilee, Trunk or Treat’s, and most school Halloween events were canceled last year because of Covid-19.
Even though many events throughout North Augusta were canceled, people still found a way to keep the Halloween season going.
Madison Noyce, NAHS senior, said her family “usually decorates a ‘scary tree’ in our yard with ghosts and spider webs as well as carve pumpkins.” Once Covid hit, she said, “We stayed away from bigger neighborhoods for my siblings to trick or treat in order to avoid contact with more people than necessary.”
Even people who do not actively participate in Halloween have been affected by Covid-19, but they were also able to overcome it.
Another North Augusta resident says, “Even though I didn’t actually participate in trick or treating, it was still obvious how COVID-19 affected Halloween. Not many children came by the house, and we still had bags of candy. When my husband got back from trick or treating with my grandson, he said barely any houses were passing out candy.”
The Halloween traditions in North Augusta might be different since COVID-19, but people are still able to find ways to enjoy the season.
