North Augusta’s Most Popular Reads

There is a wide variety of books and resources in the North Augusta High School library. Upon interviewing Mrs. Wells and Ms. Adcock, Media Specialists at NAHS, some light was shed on what the most popular books are this school year, as well as all that the NAHS library has to offer.

Mrs. Wells was able to find out what the top five books this year are. These titles are: The Waning Age by S.E. Grove, Holidaze by L. Divine, Contagion by Erin Bowman, and One Piece East Blue Volume 1 and One Piece East Blue Volume 5 by Eiichiro Oda. Among the most popular genres of books are Anime, specifically the One Piece books.

Of the other three most popular books, Mrs. Wells has read The Waning Age by S.E. Grove. She describes this book as “a dystopian novel that takes place in a world where people lose their emotions or ‘wane’ at age ten. The main character, Natalia, has a little brother who, for some reason, is not waning. A corporation kidnaps him for testing, and Natalia must rescue him.” She found this book to be an original concept and thought that it was interesting to see how people with no emotions interact with each other.

The book Contagion is another very popular read that takes place on another planet during a “zombie-like” outbreak. Holidaze by L. Devine is about the main character, Jayd, trying to get over the death of her friend along with some other drama, such as her main enemy plotting against her and relationship issues. Mrs. Wells notes that this is the ninth book in the series. The first book of the series is titled The Fight.

The NAHS Media Center has much to offer its students. Mrs. Wells and Ms. Adcock would like to inform everyone that there is a large eBook collection online which can be visited via the online card catalog. They are also offering a book delivery service for all students. Mrs. Wells writes “you can go on our online card catalog, place a book on hold, and we will deliver to your classroom.” This can be done by visiting the NAHS Media Center webpage and clicking on the “Library Catalog.”

Most students have school-issued laptops, so it is expected that they may not need to go to library as often to use their computers, but the library is available for laptop maintenance assistance and printing services. Ms. Adcock noted that “sometimes we can fix the problem or if not, we will notify the computer technician and he’ll be able to fix it.”

Ms. Adcock also felt it was important to share that the library has lots of books about finances, college, and preparing for exams such as the ACT or SAT. Both Mrs. Wells and Ms. Adcock strongly encourage NAHS students to check out all the books the library has to offer. There are tons of genres that are suitable for anyone. Students have a maximum of five books per checkout for a period of three weeks, but they can always renew if more time is needed.
