With the countdown to graduation closing in, the reality of high school’s end has begun to set in for many seniors. It is a very stressful and exciting time for them, and even though college is just over three months from now, the preparation for college has already begun. Of course, for many seniors, the college prep started when they began taking AP classes. “I've been preparing for college by taking as many AP classes as I can,” says future University of South Carolina student, Ryan Dixon. Passing as many AP courses as possible helps to reduce the amount of college courses a student will need to take in the future.
More recently, seniors have been focusing on the more detailed aspects of moving to a new place. Time management is something that many students struggle with, especially in college. “I have been structuring my time and watching my time management so that once I get to college I can be ahead of procrastination and any other kind of time-wasting,” says Dixon. Another big worry is getting accustomed to new surroundings. “The scariest thing is going to be memorizing the campus, because I have absolutely no sense of direction and the short-term memory of Dory from Finding Nemo,” says Maggie Johnson, who will also be attending UofSC.
Fun aspects about moving out, such as interior decorating have been a priority too. “I’ve been coordinating dorm decorations with my roomie, Rachel Walden,” says Johnson. She also states, “I’m bringing a lot of my plants and for funzies we are getting a rubber ducky shower curtain.”
