Semester exams have been omitted for the past two years because of learning challenges created by COVID-19. They have returned in the 2021 – 2022 academic year for students at North Augusta High School.
Wyatt Razey, a senior at North Augusta High School, saysthat he is happy to have these exams return, as “it will push students harder and help them keep their grades up rather than cramming for the [End-Of-Course] exam at the end of the year”.
Others, such as Myles Puckett and Emmanuel Coulibaly were surprised by this news. Puckett felt that “we should have waited to reintroduce exams.” Coulibaly stated he wished that “we would have been notified earlier that semester exams were returning so we could prepare properly.”
Exams such as these, which count for 20% of semester grades, can require a lot of academic and mental preparation. Many, including Anna Corley, believe that semester exams add unnecessary stress and are not a good idea as they count for such a large portion of our grades.
Though there are many pros and cons to school exams, NAHS teachers are working very hard to make students as prepared and relaxed as possible. Exams will be held during the week of December 14th.
