The first full week in April is spring break for students in the North Augusta area. Spring Break is a time when students and faculty get a break to relax and regroup before the fourth quarter of the school year. Students use this time as a reset before their exams in May. Faculty use this time to rest and prepare for the final few months of the school year.
Some students go on vacation with their families during spring break. Lilly Enter, a junior at NAHS, is going to spend her spring break at Disney World in Orlando, Florida with her family.
Enter said she is looking forward to “all the roller coasters.” Her favorite is the Rock and Roller Coaster because “it is the fastest one and goes upside down.”
“My favorite part about Disney is the atmosphere and the people. Everyone is so welcoming and cheerful, and they really do make the place feel so magical. There are also so many parades and shows with all the characters throughout the day that my family and I love to watch together,” says Enter.
Ann Marie Partl, a junior at NAHS, will spend her spring break visiting family in Albuquerque, New Mexico and then will visit the Grand Canyon in Arizona.
Partl said, “I am really excited to get to spend quality time with my family, explore New Mexico, and enjoy time to relax with a break from school.”
Some students stay in town during spring break and use the opportunity to spend time with family and friends or some work and earn extra money.
Drew Pond, a junior at NAHS, will be working the concessions at the Augusta National's Masters Golf Tournament.
“I applied for the Masters because I love the environment. I was raised with much respect for Augusta National and grew up watching the Masters every year,” says Pond.
Pond is hoping to gain connections with his coworkers and managers and be able to add this work experience to his resume. He looks forward to “watching the best golfers in the world play one of the most beautiful games.”
As different North Augusta students rest and travel during their break, they prepare themselves for their upcoming exams season and the end of the second semester.
