Four hard years of work all culminate to one single event. A celebration of that time, it’s something many students look forward to. It’s a transitory event, helping to move students on to bigger and better things. A final goodbye.
All of this describes the NAHS Graduation Ceremony. A special event for Seniors to present them with their diplomas and allow them to celebrate their time at North Augusta. This year, the Graduation Ceremony will be different than those previously. The Class of 2021 was affected by the ongoing pandemic throughout the entirety of their senior year, as well as the end of their junior year.
Because of this ongoing pandemic and its continual affects on the Class of 2021, the Graduation Ceremony will also be different this year. After an interview with Principal Mr. Murphy, he has stated what changes were made, providing some context to these decisions. He clarified that students would be receiving four tickets for the 2021 Graduation Ceremony. When asked about why the time of the ceremony was moved, he stated that it was because of “heat consideration” and also “so that parents do not have to take off work”. Although these are small changes to the usual NAHS Graduation Ceremony, Mr. Murphy states that he is simply “happy that we can hold a ceremony for our Seniors.” The event is truly a gift, as it has been difficult for the administration to organize large events such as graduation ceremonies while also adhering to CDC guidelines for the pandemic. Mr. Murphy states that “it should be a fun event.”
As for the students at North Augusta, they also have input to add regarding their 2021 Graduation Ceremony. Jackson Beavers a senior at North Augusta, was interviewed in order to gain this input, along with Amanda Null, a graduating junior.
Beavers stated that graduation feels “like it’s coming up way too fast.” However, he does feel that the ceremony will do their class justice, stating “I think the school does a good job of celebrating the students during graduation.” Null added further insight, stating “I think it’s going to be very different with everything that has happened this year, but it’s going to be as good as it can be.” As for her personal feelings about graduation, she states “It feels very scary but in a good way. There’s going to be so many new experiences, and it’s going to be a big change in my life, but I’m excited to see where it takes me.”
North Augusta High is working its hardest to honor the Class of 2021 in the best way they know how. This Graduation Ceremony will be a reflection of that dedication and care.
