Upcoming Religious Celebrations of Easter in the North Augusta Community

Easter is a religious celebration that Christians all over the world participate in. For Christians, Easter is a day to attend religious services and gather with family to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Throughout the community of North Augusta, many families and churches gather to celebrate Easter.

Madison Noyce, a senior at North Augusta High School, said that she likes to celebrate Easter with her family.

“My family goes to church on Easter Sunday and then goes back to our house for lunch. We also plan an Easter egg hunt for the younger kids in my family,” says Noyce.

She says her family loves enjoying time with each other during such a meaningful celebration. They go to the Easter sermon every year at First Baptist Church of North Augusta.

Graniteville Community Church is a church that has a large celebration for Easter. Although not directly in North Augusta, many people in North Augusta attend Graniteville Community Church.

Sierra Key, the Children’s Ministries Director at Graniteville Community Church, said “Leading up to Easter, we have an afternoon in the park, where families can come, and relationships can grow. We have a hangout for our middle and high schoolers held the Friday after Easter. Out teens look forwards to these nights every month and the one following Easter will provide us even more opportunities to share the message of Christ and see friendships continue to grow.”

Graniteville Community Church has had some struggles in recent years with Covid-19, but they were able to push through challenging times.

“The first year of Covid required us to take our Easter service online- which then allowed us to revamp and create our online presence,” said Sierra.

They now have a media team that they use to broadcast every Sunday service.

Sierra said, “The following year, we decided to do three services so that we could socially distance. We are thankful we have this setup now because, through COVID, our church has grown with new members and new families. Now that we can fully gather again, we will continue with the three services for Easter Sunday so we can have space for everyone to attend.”

Throughout the years, Easter has still been able to be celebrated and cherished. No matter how the world has turned, communities like First Baptist and Graniteville Community Church have been able to persevere and make sure Easter is celebrated for people in the North Augusta community.
