Being a North Augusta High School player is an achievement in itself. It comes with exciting crowds, the Friday night lights, and being a part of the Yellow Jacket family. However, some of the North Augusta High School football players have recently received some extra recognition for their accomplishments this past season.
The Aiken Standard released their All-Aiken Standard Football Team roster this past December. This “team” is built of players of outstanding achievement and agile performance. A few of our very own Yellow Jackets qualified for this title, including Austin Harrell, Grayson Bridgers, Joe DeLaughter, Bryson Mealing, Donifon Brown, and Matt Baskett. Finishing this season in the playoffs, it is no doubt these boys are strong-willed and very skilled at what they do.
To get some better insight, junior Austin Harrell was asked what is means to make the team. Harrell stated, “Making the Aiken Standard team was a huge accomplishment for me and I’m very thankful to make it.” He was recognized as the first team quarterback for his impressive stats, which include numbers such as 146 completed passes, a total of 1869 passing yards, and 271 rushing yards.
Harrell’s hard work has paid off and brought him many other titles. Harrell says,” My biggest achievements this football season were, Aiken Standard football team, region offensive player of the year, and winning a region championship.” With these, Harrell will enter his senior season leading the Yellow Jackets. His goals for the upcoming season are, “to improve on this year and hopefully win all state and more importantly a state championship.”
These accomplishments do not come without putting in the work. Harrell is a dedicated player – not just during the football season, but also in baseball and basketball. Being a multi-sport athlete can be exhausting; with keeping up grades, going to practice, and preparing for the future, it is a lot to handle. Harrell says,” Being a multi-sport athlete is very hard, you have to put in a lot of extra hours and you have to be able to keep up with school and sports.” His accomplishments, whether on the football field, basketball court or baseball field, are more than worthy of being recognized. The Yellow Jacket community is beyond excited to see what is in store for him in the future.
