Jackets Take on Injuries with No Trainer

With having no Athletic Trainer this year, things have been a little rough in the nest. Players have had to find alternate solutions to healing themselves in time for their next game.

Kennedy McCants, a senior middle hitter on the Varsity Volleyball team, has had to find her own trainer to heal so that she can shine on the court. McCants shares that “It’s been tough because we don’t have anyone to go to for injuries where we need intensive care and there’s only so many girls our coach can help out at once whilst coaching our team.”

Coaches are having to learn how to care for injuries and care for practice at the same time. Multi-tasking is a much bigger deal this season. Kennedy also says that “Our coach, Kenneth Grier, has offered to run is an ice bath whenever necessary, wrapped ankles for the players that need it, taped injured fingers, etc.”

Mills Stone, a senior defensive lineman on the Varsity Football team, has had to go to multiple specialists to help his overworked injuries because there isn’t a trainer to make sure it heals right.

Stone says that “Not having an athletic trainer there for the recovery process adds even more frustration to missing the time out of the season.” With so many players during fall, missing the athletic trainer has taken its toll out on every sport. Stone also shares that “being an athlete, injuries are pretty common.”

They are even more common this year because nobody can heal the right way and coaches are having to step up to the plate.
