At North Augusta High School, there are a multitude of activities for students to pursue. Freshman Julianne Hammond and junior Alyssa Brady have excelled in the art of baton twirling. These majorettes perform at every home football game and have been baton twirling since they were little. Hammond states, “I started twirling in 2nd grade” and Brady says, “I started in the 4th grade.” These girls put on an amazing show at the football games and never disappoint the crowd with their impressive skills and athleticism.
Hammond and Brady both stated “We twirl with our competition team, Paramount. We compete with our teammates at local, state, regional, and national competitions.” Hammond and Brady twirl almost year-round. They also said, “When we are not twirling or showing spirit for the North Augusta High School Yellow Jackets, we love to showcase our skills on the competition floor as duet partners.” Both girls express “My favorite part is being able to travel around the country competing in competitions.” Brady also mentions that she loves to make new friends. As Hammond and Brady are traveling and competing, they also have a few wins up their sleeve. They mention “We have competed as duet partners three times at the National Level. We have placed in the top ten twice in our age and division.” They also won a national title in both 2018 and 2019.
Competitive twirling may not be a sport everyone is familiar with, but these girls put in many hours of training and practice to maintain their skills, and take great pride in their work. Nothing will stop these girls from competing in what they love. North Augusta High School loves to see students excel and pursue all kinds of sports and supports their continued success.
