Every year, people from all over the CSRA come together for a game like no other - The Border Bowl. Players, coaches, cheerleaders, and all of their supporters came out to Memorial Stadium on January 8th for this great matchup.
North Augusta high school was represented by both the cheer squad and the football team for the South Carolina side. Drew Stevens and Chase Tillman were chosen to put the jerseys on and play on the field. Harlee Bryan, Tiana Bostic, and Keiri Mckie were selected to cheer them on from the sidelines.
Senior Harlee Bryan says, “It’s the best of the best in the CSRA and they all come together to create a really fun and exciting game. We get to showcase our best players from Georgia and from South Carolina.”
The players and cheerleaders come from all over, ranging from schools like Fox Creek and North Augusta, to Saluda and Burke County.
Senior Keiri Mckie explains all the work that had to be done to prepare; stating, “We began practicing in September. We practiced every Wednesday and Sunday for about four hours.”
Cheering on the sidelines is much different than being in the stands or on the field. Bryan says, “It was freezing cold but so worth it. Coming together with twenty other girls all over the CSRA was an amazing experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything.”
Bostic would have to agree, saying,” this was one of the best experiences you could have as a high schooler,” and Keiri Mckie joining in by saying, “ If you are a senior in high school in the CSRA I highly recommend that you do it because it is a great experience that you are able to get out of your comfort zone and do something that you haven’t done before.”
