Everything Coming to an End: Senior Night

With spring seasons ending or moving on to playoffs, our jacket sports have begun to celebrate our seniors and all of their accomplishments. A junior on the soccer team, Ryan Williams, says “senior night is just an overall fun experience to send our seniors off and show them how important they are to the team!”

Every team has their own traditions and ways to make their last high school season as memorable as they can for their friends that are soon to embark on the next step in their lives. For instance, every sport gets banners for each senior to go on display for all to see.

The North Augusta soccer and softball teams order senior night t-shirts to commemorate the night forever. The lady jackets often decorate the stadium and are often given flowers as well as gift baskets of sorts.

A traditional senior night consists of an announcer saying the seniors’ names, how long they’ve played for the team, their most memorable moments, some things their teammates had to say about them, and their plans after graduation as they stand on the field to be recognized.

Both the baseball and softball team have six seniors while girls’ soccer has five this season. When asked about if they plan senior night for a game they feel they will win, junior, Elizabeth Levins, on the softball team says, “we usually play our last region home game as senior night and we usually beat every team in the region so it isn’t something we try to plan.”

This differs with the soccer team as they tend to plan senior night towards the end of the season against a team they feel will be a fairly easy match to win in order for everyone to hopefully walk away happy. Bryson Nuckols, a junior on the baseball team, says “we don’t necessarily have a specific game they choose for their senior night but this season we played good competition.”

Softball has also had their senior night but soccer differs in the fact that they plan to celebrate on their first round of playoffs due to scheduling and electronic difficulties. The team says they are very excited to honor their seniors and everything they’ve done for the soccer program.
