This past season’s North Augusta football team was proven to be one of success. With so many obstacles and hurdles the team had to go through - the Jackets prevailed. But some specific players made real strides this year despite the challenges. One example of these players is Joe DeLaughter – who recently received the All CSRA award. This coveted award was given to him for his exceptional talent and genuine sportsmanship.
Every year, players from all around the CSRA are chosen to be recognized by the Augusta Sports Council and are given a ring to commemorate their achievement. So, how does one get selected for this honor? DeLaughter says, “it means that I have excelled at my position and am one of the best players in the CSRA.” This is true, as he was an All-State left tackle for the second year and has also received the All Region Award. Receiving an award like All CSRA takes dedication. DeLaughter says,” I have practiced and worked hard the last few years and have listened to and done what my coaches have taught me.”
DeLaughter has been on the varsity football team for three years, but in his televised broadcast it also highlights his family history on the team as well. This includes information such as how his brother played, and how his father won a state championship in 1989. However, the televised broadcast is a little different this year due to the pandemic. In the past, All CSRA was an award ceremony where rings and scholarships were given, but this year each player got to do a segment that shed some light about themselves and their experience. DeLaughter says, “I was a little nervous [to film] at first but I thought that I did pretty well and it was fun to record it and talk about my experience.” His coach, Jim Bob Bryant, was also interviewed for the award where he gave DeLaughter high praises, stating, “He is a great, great high school football player and an even better kid.”
Joe DeLaughter is a senior at North Augusta this year and will be graduating in the final semester of 2021. Graduating with a roster like All CSRA, All Region, and All State, along with other academic achievements, DeLaughter is destined to do great things. When asked about his plans for the future, he stated that, “This is my last year of football and my plan for the future is to go to Clemson and further my education.” While the offensive line, the fans of North Augusta football, and many others hate to see him go, there is no doubt his qualities that helped him to excel in football will lead him to prosper in the future.
