The days are getting longer, and the temperature is getting warmer, meaning that Spring is finally underway. The new season brings the beginning of spring sporting seasons. After Christmas, conditioning for baseball, softball, soccer, and boys' tennis begin.
Senior student, Leland Swanson, is a member of the Boy’s tennis team. “My favorite part about the tennis team is the match's because I'm a very competitive person so I like winning. Also, they show me what areas I need to improve on at next week's practice, Swanson says.
The team practices daily at the recreation department to hone in on their skills to prepare for the matches. “We practice during the week to prepare for matches and during match days I really focus on a light practice just trying to get my mind cleared and ready to play,” said Swanson. The first match for the team is on March the Seventeenth, but our boys have won all their preseason scrimmages against Mead Hall.
Swanson has played every year on the team since freshman year, meaning this is his final season as a Yellow Jacket tennis competitor. This can be bittersweet for athletes leaving the nest.
Commemorating this, Swanson says,” It doesn't feel much different being a senior on the team, other than me knowing it's my last tennis season. I will probably miss the people and friends I've met on the team as well as Coach Wiggins. Coach Wiggins has helped me a lot with not only tennis but college and beyond.”
