Powderpuff has been a school tradition for years that many really enjoy and look forward to. This past powderpuff season is one to go down in the books as the juniors won it all. Needless to say, the junior lady jackets are very proud. The girls practiced hard Monday through Thursday in preparation for their Friday night games. They ran drills and plays, scrimmaged, and played offense vs defense.
Upon asking why she decided to play powderpuff, Irish Miles, safety for the seniors said, “I decided to play powderpuff because it was my senior year and I didn’t want to miss any opportunity.” She also went on to say that the preparation week before the games is her favorite part, as you get to “go to practice and laugh with your friends and make connections with them!”
There was a lot of talk about possible unfair play and some rather unfriendly competition on the field. In regards to this, the general consensus was that overall the games were fair with a little extra roughness and a bit of bias from the refs.
Junior, Ryan Williams said that she felt as if “the games were mostly fair but there was competition causing some tension in the last game.”
Emma Ellis, the linebacker for the freshman jackets said, “I think we all played really good and next year we will have more practice and knowledge of what to do.” She also said that she is hopeful for a better outcome next year.
Cassidy Haney, who played wide receiver and middle linebacker for her fellow sophomores said she wanted to experience a sport other than soccer and really enjoyed creating new friendships while still building on others.
Ryan had something similar to say as she stated, “I decided to play powderpuff because I thought it would be a fun way to hang out with friends and step out of my comfort zone…” She went on to say that she also liked how many people came out to watch and support their grades.
This week-long activity certainly seems to unite our lady jackets and allow them to create new friendships while also getting more involved. It even gives the rest of the school the opportunity to come out and support their school as well as enjoy a fun Friday night social event. Whether in 9th grade or 12th, this tradition is truly fun for everyone and allows for even more black and gold spirit.
