“The thing that I am going to miss most about the cross-country team after I graduate will be all the friends and fun memories I have made while on the team,” says Sean Fowley, a senior and member of the North Augusta cross-country team.
After being a cross-country member for two years, it is finally time for Fowley’s senior season. “It is different because I know it is my last year on the cross-country team,” he explains, “I don’t want my last season or my time on the team to end because its flown by so fast.”
“The younger guys on the team ask me questions for help and guidance as to what type of run or warmups we are doing,” Fowley says, recalling his role as a leader on the team.
Olivia Johnson, a two-year member of the North Augusta High School Golf team, has also served as a leader to her fellow teammates due to this being her last year on the team.
“Seniors haven’t always been the biggest leaders of the team, but we’re trying our best to be that for our teammates this year,” Johnson says. “Seniors are usually here for advice, because they’ve been on the team the longest.”
“My biggest achievement on the golf team is probably making all regions title,” says Johnson.
Fowley, however, says his greatest achievement is a specific time he earned in one of his races, stating “I believe my greatest achievement is getting a twenty-three minute and thirty-four second 5k time as my best time.”
The senior seasons of North Augusta High School’s athletes are marked by leadership and mentoring of others on the team along with fond memories of years past. While the teams they are on now will be left in the past, bright opportunities for college involvement are on their horizons.
