Being a wrestler at North Augusta High School is “an experience to say the least” senior wrestler Emannuel Coulibaly says.
Many of the older members of the team are called to positions of mentorship. Coulibaly states “this is my team and something that comes with that is directing and guiding the newer kids and watching them grow.”
Even though the pandemic has been prevalent during his time as a wrestler so far, Coulibaly state “It hasn’t really affected it at all this year, but last year a lot of matches got canceled, maybe around 30 matches in total.”
However, this hasn’t stopped Coulibaly from making the most of his experience. He says that, “Wrestling is one of the hardest sports in the world and me knowing that I can do this, gives me the confidence to overcome other obstacles in life.”
Coulibaly is both excited and nervous about the upcoming season, stating, “sometimes I feel like the new members of the team lack a feeling of confidence and charisma but that usually comes with starting a new sport and those attributes will come in time.”
