The Cheerleading Program at North Augusta High School

“I enjoy cheering because it’s like a sisterhood. I enjoy rooting for my home team on the sidelines with my friends to help pull our jackets to victory… The team works extremely well with bonding and supporting one another in every aspect of life, on and off the field,” says Taylor Spivey, a junior on the North Augusta varsity cheerleading team.

The North Augusta Cheerleading team has practice twice a week in preparation for games. Varsity cheerleader Lily Burton states, “We usually run our 5 laps and then do 40 butterfly sit ups, 30 pushups, 20 jumping jacks, and 10 burpees.”

Tessa Timmerman, a freshman on the JV cheer team says, “I enjoy cheer because I like supporting my school and our football team… I feel that the team works pretty well together because we know when we can play around but we are serious when we need to be.”

The JV practices run the same as varsity except they practice their halftime show. They must arrive to their games on Thursdays 30 minutes early to review the halftime show and stretch. They leave as soon as the game is over.

The Jacket Cheerleading Team works hard in order to support the football team at both the JV and Varsity games. Although there are no more home games for the 2021 football season, the team is already preparing for the upcoming basketball season.
